Literacy Network seeks volunteer tutors to assist students in Madison College (MATC) ESL classrooms for the semester as part of a new tutoring program. This project will help to support the academic success of lower-level adult learners with career goals. You will be trained by Literacy Network and will support classroom instructors at Madison College (MATC). Successful tutors can get valuable classroom instruction experience as well as letters of recommendation from your Madison College instructor and Literacy Network!
Requirements: No experience or foreign language skills required, although Spanish skills may be helpful. You must be reliable, mature, friendly and patient. You will be expected to attend your assigned class every week during the semester (which ends December 19). If you expect to miss more than 3 classes, you may not qualify for this volunteer opportunity. All classes are held at the downtown MATC campus at 211 N Carroll St.
Literacy Network is a non-profit organization made up of teachers, learners, tutors, volunteers and donors all working together to improve adult literacy in Dane County. Our programs teach reading, writing and speaking skills to adults and families so they can achieve financial independence, good health and greater involvement in community life.
