We are a small community in need of your IT skills. We are a small NGO working in rural Nicaragua providing computer and ESL instruction. Our website located at www.solentiname.org. We need help updating our website, and other IT skills. We need : • Help in the continuous effort to upgrade and improve the our joomla website. The aim is to help us present the best face we can on the internet by creating a site that is aesthetically pleasing, and rich in tools and resources for young adults, with particular emphasis on Solentiname Nicaragua. • Create a wireless community network in our island community to connect the schools and other public areas to the internet. We have the base connection, we need to design and implement the network. • Expand our current program of "computers in the casa" and assistance in keeping our bank of old laptops repaired and running. Currently we have 27 Dell Latttude laptops in the Sala de Computacion, and another 18 in "Computers in the Casa(home). Some of the work can be done remotely, but the ideal volunteer(s) will be able to visit Solentiname either as a short term volunteer, or for a longer internship. This is an on-going need so make contact no matter your timing requirements.
This could be a virtual position, where you would visit Nicaragua periodically
Please visit our www.solentiname.org for more information about this opportunity and =the Alianza.
Our mission statement guides our programs by recognizing the delicate nature of the culture and community. We accept that by disrupting the existing system, even if it is flawed, with temporary solutions or hand-outs can often do more harm than good. We strive to empower local residents, as partners with a sustainable approach to their project work that recognizes the long-term impact and viability of their efforts. This is done through much collaboration with the local community, whereby we and volunteers listen and learn from the community before acting on their behalf
Application process -- We view the application process as 'organic' that builds as more information is exchanged.
