Lard Buddha is called star in South Asian countries like Nepal, Japan, and Taiwan so on. The country Nepal has been declared as secular country after establishing Federal Democratic Republic Country. However, there is overwhelming Buddhist followers after Hindu. Because of tremendous Buddhist people in Nepal, many monasteries have been established in different part of Nepal. So, within the Kathmandu Valley and outside places have popular monasteries which are historically important. The monasteries have been teaching Buddhist philosophy to the children though it is felt the lack of some English Language proficiency. Therefore, if some volunteers want to teach English language to the student and giving training to Monk in the Monastery is always welcomed.
The FUN-Nepal will manage all the activities related to volunteering like Teaching English and other Volunteer work in Gomba (Monastery). Though, predominantly a Hindu country, Buddhism is also practiced by Tibetan people who are in exile in Nepal. Volunteers interested to work in a Buddhist monastery mostly teach English education to monks and immerse themselves in Buddhist culture. This is a perfect project if you are interested in Buddhism and the life of Buddhist monks.

What skills do I need?
No previous teaching experience is needed though if someone has it would be better. Volunteers joining the Buddhist monk teaching programs in Nepal should have good English in both written and spoken. Volunteers should not be native English speaker if s/he has knowledge of English language. Volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient and interest in the lifestyle of Buddhist monks will enjoy this program.

What are my duties?
As a volunteer of FUN-Nepal English Teaching Project, you will primarily work as English instructors in the Tibetan schools and monastery. You will teach English to Tibetan kids for 3-4 hours a day. In addition, to English teaching, volunteers will assist in other school extracurricular activities. In the evening, you can organize games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extracurricular activities.

Morning and late evening time is free. If you love Buddhism, this is the perfect time to join meditation, rituals, prays, and songs with the Buddhist monks. This project gives perfect opportunities to immerse in Buddhist religion and lifestyle.

Where the accommodation?
English Teaching volunteering in the Buddhist monastery, volunteers will stay in a hostel located inside the compound of monastery. This hostel also acts as home for monks and kids FUN-Nepal arranges a separate room and shared bath for volunteers. If you are highly interested in staying on with a host family, the place will also be managed. You can find the details of arrangement of accommodation in FUN-Nepal office in Kathmandu.
