Position: Volunteer Coordinator
Reports to: Founder/Executive Director
Location: No specific location required
Type of Position: Volunteer (Unpaid)
Time Commitment: Flexible/ 10-20 hours a month.
Summary/General Description of Job:
The volunteer coordinator recruits, assists in training, and manages volunteers for various Jenna Green Foundation service projects that address specific program and community needs. The volunteers recruited by the volunteer coordinator should reflect a balance of college students, local community service organizations, and others who can participate in a range of volunteer service projects. Basic volunteer service project categories include one-day, short-term, and long-term service projects.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
• Assist in the recruiting (community outreach), screening, interviewing and training of new volunteers
• Screening (interviews, required background checks, etc.) and matching volunteers to organizational needs and opportunities
• Provide assistance and consultation for volunteers as needed and when requested
• Participate in volunteer evaluations as assigned by the Executive Director
• Attend staff meetings and assist in the evaluation of the program
• Assist with volunteer appreciation events and recognition
• Complete work time sheets monthly
• Attend conferences/seminars/meetings as requested by the executive director
• Assessing organizational need and capacity for volunteers
• Creating/ Maintaining volunteer program materials (policies and procedures, applications, volunteer agreements, orientation handbooks
• Database management and tracking of volunteer statistics
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Dedication to volunteerism and coordinating volunteer activities
• Experience in leadership role
• Experience recruiting, training, managing, and supporting groups of people to
address community needs through service projects
• Ability to build relationships and work with volunteers and community members
• Track record of planning and implementing events
• Strong language and communication skills (written and oral)
• Ability to give presentations to large groups
• Desire to share the Jenna Green Foundation, Inc. 's mission with the community
• Community service experience
• Ability to work with people/ organizations with diverse backgrounds
• Availability, dependability, and willingness to be flexible
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems and think strategically
• The ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles—experience with volunteers preferred
• Strong judge of character (this is subjective but much of the work in matching volunteers relies on instinct and the ability to read people)
• Conflict management skills (in addition to avoiding and/or alleviating conflict, volunteer management professionals need to know how to let volunteers go)
• Ability to multi-task
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a larger staff team
• Familiar with diverse technologies and software (this is especially important at organizations that use the Internet to recruit and/or communicate with volunteers)
