UNITE HERE! San Antonio, the hospitality workers' union, is looking for people interested in social and economic justice to grow the movement building power for low-wage hotel, restaurant, and food service workers in San Antonio, TX.
Our union has been campaigning to pass a local ordinance "Mi TIA", the Tip Integrity Act, to protect tens of thousands of hotel and restaurant workers who have tips stolen each year. Restaurant servers in San Antonio make as little as $2.13/ hour plus whatever tips they can earn. Banquet servers routinely receive less than half of the service charges customers pay for their service.
Many of us work in the hospitality industry or know people who do. Hospitality is the third largest employment sector in San Antonio. Improving these jobs will mean raising families out of poverty, changing San Antonio and making it a city of justice for all.
We are currently looking for volunteers who can commit a minimum of 5 hours per week to assist with outreach to hospitality workers, voters, and community organizations. Volunteering could lead to paid canvassing positions in April.
UNITE HERE is a progressive labor union, fighting for dignity, living wages and affordable health care for low wage workers. UNITE HERE represents approximately 250,000 workers in the hotels, textile, industrial laundry, gaming and food service industries throughout the United States and Canada.

Please introduce yourself, including information about what you are currently doing (work, school, and/or other community involvement), and answer this question: "What experiences in your own life and in San Antonio make you want to change the way things are for low-wage workers, and for the whole community?"
