Volunteer Teachers needed for Rural Schools - Kerala, South India

Yearoutindia are looking for volunteers to join our Reach and Teach project working with rural schools in the Western Ghat mountains to start FEBRUARY/MARCH/APRIL 1213. This is an ongoing project and we are looking for individuals and groups to join our projects in Kerala, South India.

You can be a refreshing change in the classroom teaching students from nursery through to high school. With most programs you can volunteer as an "English Teacher" or Creative Arts Teacher. There is the opportunity to develop your own project ideas through music, drama or sports. Flexibility and resourcefulness will be a valuable trait.

Even if you've never formally taught a classroom subject, you can contribute in many ways including school renovations and improving infrastructure. Teaching work involves you assisting the local teachers in their day to day work at the school. You don't need to know the local language or the methods of the local school system. All you need is enthusiasm and a desire to share your knowledge with these children. The outcome could easily be the most rewarding volunteering experience of your life.

Weekends and placement breaks can usually be used to travel and experience the colourful culture, festivals, sights, history, tradition, in numerous temples and the many beautiful beaches of Kerala.

Volunteers are required all year round, this placement will be at the Michaelgiri Primary School. Only 2-4 volunteer placement positions available per program at any particular time.

COSTS The volunteer service program fee is used to support the volunteer, the local projects and the service program overall. The volunteer program fee INCLUDES Orientation, All food (3-4 meals), all bottled water, Accommodation, Project travel + a lot more based on individual program requirements. The balance goes towards other projects and maintenance. Volunteers will also assist the YOI staff in managing the funds and buy materials needed for the school or renovation work etc.

There are NO admin fees, although a charge is deducted in case of last minute (really really late) cancellations of placement.

What's NOT covered in the service program fee?

Airfare or other travel to the site, alcoholic beverages, and personal travel expenses are NOT included.
