Descripción de la oportunidad de voluntariado

Neighborhood Bike Works is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer educational, recreational, and career-building opportunities to underserved youth through bicycling. We also promote cycling as a healthy, affordable, environment-friendly form of transportation. We operate two community bike shops in Philadelphia and serve hundreds of youth each year in our free and low-cost out of school time programs. Our goal is to instill confidence, inspire a sense of adventure, and build skills for future success, using bikes as the hook to engage and empower young people.

Board of Directors Opportunities

We have 3-4 open positions on our Board of Directors. Board service is a way for professionals and community members to engage with a diverse community of cycling and youth advocates, and to give back by helping to make our programs stronger and in turn empower Philly's youth.

Our Board of Directors meets six times each year, and board members are expected to serve on a committee and represent NBW at events and in the community. The key responsibilities of board members are to:

  • Provide broad oversight and strategic direction for NBW.
  • Provide fiscal oversight, including adopting and reviewing an annual budget, and ensuring review of tax forms and audits.
  • Provide leadership and support for organizational fundraising, including making a personally significant gift to NBW and soliciting financial support from others.
  • Represent NBW at events and support the long-term growth and sustainability of the organization.

We seek individuals with a passion for youth development, cycling, and community building. We are particularly looking for individuals with the following skills:

  • Finance – planning, budgeting, nonprofit accounting
  • Business development and planning
  • Youth development – program planning, evaluation
  • Fundraising & special events planning

Women, minorities, and individuals from the communities we serve are especially encouraged to apply.
