Thanks for your interest in volunteering for Girls on the Run! As girls from across our area come together to achieve their goals on 5K day (Nov. 24th), they will be depending on volunteers like you to help them shine! Here are some key volunteer areas we hope you will consider signing up for:
Cheer Team - Cheer zones are a way for volunteers to cheer the girls on during their race. Girls on the Run will provide cow bells, pom-poms and fans to these volunteers. Volunteers may also dress up, play music of their own, etc. Each zone will receive an "assigned" location on the course.
Information and Volunteer Comfort Team - Volunteers will answer questions for runners and their families during the event. Volunteers will also set-up the volunteer comfort station and distribute food and drink to volunteers on the course.
Inspiration Team - Volunteers will be dispersed throughout the course to write encouraging and inspirational messages in chalk. Also, this group will set up signs identifying distance.
On Course Safety - Course marshalls are placed throughout the 3.1 mile course to monitor the race in case any runners need assistance. Course marshalls are also expected to keep spectators out of the road for the runners safety. Course marshalls should be prepared to walk (or run) up to 1 mile to/from their assigned post and should bring a fully charged cell phone to report any emergencies on the course.
Packet Pick Up - Check in race day community runners and parents and distribute their race packets. At the conclusion, break-down area.
Parking - These volunteers will guide race-day volunteers and sponsors to the correct parking lots and also redirect race participants to the metro parking lot
Set Up Crew - This is a great job for someone who would like to help out before the 5K. Volunteers will help set up the vendor and sponsor area pre-race. This includes setting up/breaking down tables, chairs, displays, unloading cars, etc.
Start/Finish Line Team - These volunteers will help set up the start and finish line then assist with ensuring the safety of the girls while they cross the finish line.
Volunteer Welcoming Team - Check in volunteers as they arrive and direct them to their respective teams.
We hope you will sign up!
