V-O-L-U-N-T-E-E-R to help our students build their vocabulary and become confident readers. CFK's One-on-One Literacy Tutoring program allows you to develop a deep and meaningful relationship with the child you mentor while helping him/her master the English language. You'll facilitate activities focused on essential vocabulary words, listening skills, pronunciation, and reading comprehension.
This program requires a commitment of 1 1/2 hours per week (Monday - Friday), not including travel time. We'll pair you with two students, each for one 45-minute tutoring session. Details:
Schedule: Once a week (day of your choice), January 21, 2013 thru March 22, 2013
Time: 8:00am - 9:30am OR 9:30 - 11:00am (your choice)
Location: P.S. 73, South Bronx (1020 Anderson Ave, 4 or D to Yankee Stadium)
Winter 2013 Orientation dates are Tuesday, January 15 (5:30pm - 7:00pm) or Thursday, January 17 (5:30pm - 7:00pm). All volunteers must attend one hour-long orientation and be fingerprinted by the Department of Education before entering the classroom.
