Alliance nepal promotes sustainable solutions to world poverty and disparity through global partnerships in development, education, health, and service.
Each year, many Nepalese die or suffer unnecessarily due to lack of health education and access to adequate health care resources. The sick in the mountain regions or villages sometimes die long before a physician can even diagnose. Because of the poor transportation, patients often have to be hand-carried in bamboo baskets to the nearest health center, often many miles from their village.
Program places volunteers in health posts, sub health posts and health clinics. You work in either an urban or rural setting, providing primary care to locals in your specialty. Moreover, if you have doubts about whether your skills and talents are really needed in this part of the world, consider this: The doctor-patient ratio in Nepal is about 1 to 36,000. Particularly in rural areas, where much of the local people live, there is a desperate, chronic shortage of medical personnel and supplies. Medical school students' activities will include things like following doctors on their rounds, exploring different treatments for simple ailments, providing physical therapy, and participating in vaccination programs. Of all of our programs, we are perhaps most proud of the Medical Volunteer Program and the invaluable contributions of independent-minded professionals like you. You will help to relieve the suffering of others, playing a critical role in the villages and towns where you'll serve. Hello ,
You have the opportunity to participate in a variety of health, educational and community aid programs. This will give you a chance to make an important contribution to the people of Nepal. While doing so you will gain an in depth experience of the country and its culture that will stay with you the rest of your life.
PROGRAM Volunteer for hospital
Volunteers can do their medical elective at a hospital in Pokhara where they will have hands on clinical experience in a field of operations relevant to their expertise. Alliance Nepal medical elective program is invaluable for a career in medicine. Volunteers will experience first hand the stark contrast between Western medical practice and the realities of medicine in developing countries. Key requirements for a volunteer on the Nepal medical elective program are initiative, enthusiasm, and readiness to work in unfamiliar circumstances such as surgeries with minimal resources and understaffed hospitals. NB For the medial elective, volunteers need to be training or qualified in a relevant medical field. Therefore, volunteers are required to present a copy of their qualifications and certificates to our program partner on arrival in Nepal.
Health professionals – including doctors, nurses and medical students – can join the Health Aid Program and contribute to the improvement in the health of the nation of Nepal. Doctors and nurses can gain valuable experience in their clinical expertise and learn new professional skills in a developing country, while medical students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience. Alliance Nepal currently has opportunities for volunteers to assist at health centers, hospitals, remote health posts and mobile clinics.
The placements are available in Pokhara Valley, Pokhara and Chitwan, all of which are near to the main city. The exact location of your placement is finalized during the training where you will visit several potential project sites. Project placement also takes into consideration:
- Your skills and preferences - The needs and requirements of the orphanages and schools - Seasonal weather patterns
All placements are very flexible giving you the opportunity to take some time off and explore Nepal and some of the world famous attractions. Rafting on the Tibetan border, trekking the Annapurna circuit or Everest Base Camp, Himalayan river kayaking, a Royal tiger and elephant safari, or the longest free-fall bungee jump in the world are a few options.
Volunteers for this program must have sound health. Volunteers need to be independent, enthusiastic and adaptable. We do not ask for any formal qualifications from our volunteers. All we ask is that you have a genuine desire to help people and are committed to seeing the program through.
Our programs run throughout the year. You can volunteer anywhere from 2 weeks to 5 months. Also, our program is flexible on your arrival and it would be possible for you to start any time.
You will be met at the airport by a representative of your guesthouse and taken back to your accommodation. All volunteers will receive initial training after arriving in pokhara. The training is designed to help you settle into Nepal and to ensure you are fully prepared for your volunteer placement: A typical orientation period is as follows:

The program fee covers: airport pickup, language primer, administrative charge, training, accommodation and main meals during placement, cultural sightsee, transportation for volunteers and supervision.
The other costs you will need to meet are: Your flights, Visa (a 60 day tourist visa is only US$30, the extensions are US$30 per 30 days with three renewals possible), shots, travel insurance, and corresponding airport departure taxes. Also you will need a weekly budget of up to US$20 to cater for all your other expenses like bottled water, personal items, beverages and entertainment. Living in a village is relatively inexpensive in comparison to most western countries and usually it is difficult to spend more than US$ 10 per week during your placement.
