Descripción de la oportunidad de voluntariado

Volunteer with AUA's 2013 summer service programs! Make a difference, represent America and gain hands-on experience in Morocco, Zanzibar or Indonesia.

This summer, the America's Unofficial Ambassadors initiative will launch new programs in Morocco, Zanzibar and Indonesia. The programs will place volunteers with local non-governmental organizations and schools for 5 to 12 weeks. Up to 24 Unofficial Ambassadors will volunteer at the grassroots level with organizations in each country dedicated to meeting the Muslim World's most urgent development needs, ranging from education and women's empowerment to economic development and protecting the environment.

AUA is a citizen diplomacy initiative of Creative Learning, a Washington DC-based not-for-profit organization. We are increasing the number of Americans who volunteer on a short-term basis in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Unofficial Ambassadors support local human development initiatives and act as positive examples of Americans abroad, creating people-to-people partnerships and dispelling stereotypes.

Upon their return, they foster cross-cultural understanding between America and the Muslim World by sharing their experiences through blogs and presentations in their home communities.

Serving as an Unofficial Ambassador-

Unofficial Ambassadors provide vital support to schools and NGOs working to improve their communities in the Muslim World. In addition to volunteering full-time, Unofficial Ambassadors learn local languages and take part in cultural activities designed to broaden their exposure to their host countries. Summer 2013 volunteer opportunities include:

  • Teaching English to primary and high school students.
  • Producing documentary films on local partners' education and environmental initiatives.
  • Coaching sports and activities for schools and youth groups.
  • Researching and writing proposals and reports for NGOs.

*Financial Aid is available to some applicants through the Mosaic Fellowship program. Look for details under the Financial Aid section of our application.
