Volunteer Role:
The Deccan Heritage Foundation is looking for 10 to 12 Education Program Volunteers to assist with an education initiative that aims at creating awareness about heritage, sustainability and civic responsibility with school children in Mumbai. The volunteer will assist the Project Leader with field trips and workshops for schools. The volunteers will help with setting up for the education activities, managing groups of children on a field trip, supporting program leaders and responding proactively to situations on the tour with good judgement, enthusiasm, and maturity.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with setting up activities, distributing materials, managing group in an outdoor setting to ensure that the program runs smoothly
- Ensuring the safety and security of the group in outdoor settings as well as indoor settings.
- Ensuring that the property of our venue partners is not damages in any way.
- Ensuring that the group behaves in an appropriate manner during the program.
- Support the program leaders and respond with good judgement, enthusiasm and maturity.
- Assist with cleaning up after the program
- Attend any training or orientation sessions that are scheduled for the program.
- Assist with distributing and collecting feedback forms, activity sheets and other program materials
- Assist with setting up any Audio/visual equipment required for the program
Specific Skills and Experience required:
- Interest in history, environment, heritage or arts & architecture
- Experience working with children, preferred
- Experience working with events, a plus
Desired qualities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Fluency in English required
- A friendly and professional demeanour, strong inter-personal and communication skills
- Excellent coordinating skills, positive and energetic attitude
- Strong desire to meet goals and commitments
- Self-starter and possessing good judgement, able to deal with ambiguity and flexibility
- Ability to respond to difficult situation in a resourceful manner
