IIPSOCULTA welcomes volunteers from all countries to become part of our exciting new project: TuTierraTV.com, an online ¨television channel¨ and social netowrking site produced by and for mexican migrants and their families that promotes the translocal exchange of culture, politics, education, organization, and solidarity. This project is being funded by the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, The Migrant Family Support Center (CAFAMI), and the Institute for Social and Cultural Practice, Inc. Our goal is to build a well organized and informed translocal community through media. Our vision is to build the most important online social media network for migrants and their families in the world.
The Volunteer joins a team of mexican activists, organizers, film-makers, and journalists to live and work in San Fransisco, Tetlanohcan, a beautiful highland rural village in Tlaxcala, Mexico.
As a volunteer, you will work as production manager and media trainer. In your role as production manager, you will work with a team of volunteers from San Francisco Tetlanohan who also have experience working in media. Your main tasks and responsabilities are to work together to produce bi-weekly or weekly news reports about local life and events. In your role as media trainer, you will work with the population of San Francisco Tetlanohcan and give workshops on the use of media, such as radio, video, photography, and internet.
One of the greatest benefits of this position is the opportunity to be part of a powerful team of young people who have been working together at CAFAMI for the last 5 years and who are leaders in the movement for immigrant and human rights in Mexico and the United States. It is a special privilege to be able to work on this team.
Your other tasks as a volunteer include doing outreach and building relationships with migrant and human rights organizations in Mexico, organizing workshops and doing follow-up, and there is the additional possibility of traveling to the United States with the team to give media workshops to migrants in California, New York, and New Jersey.
As a volunteer, you will receive a homestay with a family in the community, which includes food and some traveling costs. We ask for a voluntary donation to the local families and organizations of no less than $400 a month.
