Journeys Within Our Community (JWOC), a non-profit organization in Siem Reap, is looking for someone to join our team as a Free Classes Program Assistant. This is a full time position required for a minimum of 3 months.
Description:
This role requires a motivated individual with an education background and a minimum of 1 year teaching experience to assist in our busy Free Classes Program. The volunteer will become part of the JWOC team, helping on all aspects of the Free Classes Program to increase our teachers' capacity and improve our existing resources.
You will support the teachers to run their classes to a high standard, teach a drop in conversation class to adults and review and revise our existing Free Classes material. You will also be responsible for other ad hoc tasks as they arise. There is an option to get involved in our Sunday art classes as well.
Other duties may include; supporting the children's learning during class, assisting the teachers with running games and activities and working with teachers and staff to ensure a fun and educative environment exists.
We welcome candidates with specifc training and/or expertise in a skill that can promote learning and development in our Free Classes Program.
Compensation and Benefits:
Volunteers will be provided with a small stipend that will cover basic living costs. This will be negotiated during the interview process.
Your volunteering experience with JWOC will provide you with further experience of working within a small community development organization. Although your duties will primarily be within the Free Classes Program you will have the opportunity to learn about our other projects (Micro-Finance, Clean Water and Community Liaison and Assistance)
You will receive introductory Khmer lessons for your first week, assistance in finding a guesthouse and financial support for your visa on arrival
Requirements:
- At least 1 year teaching experience
- A TEFL course and/or an education background.
- Experience working with young children is essential
- Experience planning educative lessons, materials and resources is desirable
- Must be flexible; able to work on a variety of different tasks
- Must be enthusiastic and motivated; able to run suitable activities and motivate teacher and student involvement.
Please note that all volunteers must be able to provide us with a recent police check.
Details:The schedule for volunteers is 5 days a week 9am-4pm (with an hour and a half for lunch) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. (Please note that Sundays are optional if you do not wish to get involved in our Art Class)
