Volunteering is like working out. You know you should do it, but you just don't have the time. When you do it though, you appreciate it and feel good about yourself. You can look back and see the difference it made.Volunteering at Youth Assisting Youth is just like that. It's hard work, but it's worth it.
Youth Assisting Youth, a United Way member agency, is a non-profit charitable organization that provides mentoring and tutoring services for newcomer and at risk youth 6 - 15 years old. We need volunteers (especially guys) 16-29 years old, who are willing to tough it out for a year and help youth realize their full potential.
Volunteers will provide guidance, support, homework help, coaching and leadership to youth on a one-to-one basis or in groups like after school programs or academic, recreational or artistic activities. Attend attractions, professional sports events, etc. together. FREE passes/tickets provided (Blue Jays, Raptors, Argonauts, etc.). Scholarships are available. Comprehensive training provided. Young professionals and post secondary students/grads preferred. Bilingual volunteers needed.
Qualifications:
1. 16 - 29 years old.
2. Able to provide two professional references; (i.e. professor, employer, etc.).
3. Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening and interview
4. Able to commit to 3 hours a week on your own schedule for a year.
5. Second language (i.e. Mandarin, Farsi, Spanish, Russian, etc.) preferred but not required.
