LOCATION
The placements are available in Klefe hill, Ho, Hoviefe,Accra and Adaklu, all of which are near to the main city Ho. The exact location of your placement is finalized during the training where you will visit several potential project sites. Project placement also takes into consideration:
- Your skills and preferences - The needs and requirements of the orphanages and schools - Seasonal weather patterns
All placements are very flexible giving you the opportunity to take some time off and explore Ghana(Ho) and some of the world famous attractions. You could go to the Wli water falls, trekking the mount gemi or Afadzato Mountain which is the tallest in west africa , Speed boat in the volta river and a lot more exciting places.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENT
Volunteers for this program must have sound health. Volunteers need to be independent, enthusiastic and adaptable. We do not ask for any formal qualifications from our volunteers. All we ask is that you have a genuine desire to help people especially children and are committed to seeing the programme through.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE
Our programs run throughout the year. You can volunteer anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. Also, we are pretty flexible on your arrival regards and our programme is very flexible and it would be possible you to start any time.
TRAINING
You will be met at the airport by a representative of your guesthouse and taken back to your accommodation. All volunteers will receive initial training after arriving in Ghana. The training is designed to help you settle into Ghana and to ensure you are fully prepared for your volunteer placement: A typical orientation period is as follows:
Basic Ghanaian Language classes - 2hrs, morning. Ghananian cultural orientation/general cultural exchange Sightseeing - 2 1/2 hrs, afternoon.
After completion of your orientation phase you will be escorted to your assigned placement.
PROGRAM COST
2 weeks Euro 290
The program fee covers: airport pickup, language primer, administrative charge, training, accommodation and main meals during placement, cultural sightsee, transportation for volunteers and supervision.
The other costs you will need to meet are: Your flights, Visa , shots, travel insurance, and corresponding airport departure taxes. Also you will need a weekly budget of up to US$40 to cater for all your other expenses like bottled water, personal items, beverages and entertainment. Living in a small communities is relatively inexpensive in comparison to most western countries and usually it is difficult to spend more than US$40 per week during your placement.
