Here's your chance to do a medical elective which takes you away from the monotonous single-speciality placements of large western hospitals, and into a multi-speciality placement at our local hospital situated on our small tropical island in the Indian Ocean!
Our local hospital is in urgent need of a qualified Anaesthetists who can help out at our local hospital. The position is free for any qualified applicant and comes with free accomodation, food and transport within the Maldives.
Only requirement for you is that you sign up for a duration between 1-3 months!

This position lets you join the staff of our small hospital where where you will be able to shadow the hospital's medical staff in the everyday treatment of the atoll's patients. The hospital is situated on Naifaru Island which has a population of over 5000 people. Naifaru is also the capital of the Lhivayani Atoll, meaning that the hospital provides services for a total of 11,000 people across the atoll.
Due to the relatively small patient-base of the hospital, our medical volunteers get a chance to assist in every department. Currently the hospital has the following specialists:
- Obstetricians & Gynaecologists
- General Practitioners
Apart from giving you a great opportunity to explore a range of medical issues, as our medical volunteer, you will also be given the opportunity to go on house calls which is a great way to tap into the local culture, as it allows you to see the diseases that are taboo in this community from the inside. Whilst you are here you will be housed in our volunteer house which has all the modern amenities you could wish for. The volunteer house is situated less than 5 minutes from the hospital. As such there is an opportunity for you to be on call.
