Refugee Transitions (RT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting refugee and immigrant families in becoming self-sufficient in the United States. We provide home-based services to help these families attain the English language, life, job and academic skills they need to succeed in their new communities. We currently offer our services in San Francisco, the East Bay, and the South Bay.
Refugee Transitions partners with Oakland International High School to offer structured after-school tutoring support to help students with homework, language acquisition, academic skill-building and social adjustment. All students attending Oakland International High School are English Language Learners who have immigrated to the U.S. in the past four years. Most are low-income. This school, which opened its doors in the Fall of 2007, is a dynamic, supportive and engaging learning environment for youth, teachers and volunteers alike. Students speak over 20 languages and hail from over 40 countries.
