Women in Kenya generally have responsibilities for both domestic and productive roles, but their ability to contribute to society is constrained by social, cultural and political traditions. Women tend to be less educated; more limited in their options and paid less as compared to men. Yet they manage households, raise children, pass knowledge to the next generation, tend livestock, grow and process crops and often run business to supplement family income. These women need to be empowered to fulfill this very important role in the community.
Volunteers will be assisting in building the capacity of women to take important role in planning economic and social interventions in the society. The volunteer work with our staff to support research and actions aimed at making women's participation a reality and will support women with village credit schemes, training in forestry, crop and livestock management, accounting and marketing.
