Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education, has over $150 billion available to help students pay for college. To be eligible to receive federal aid for college, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). According to the Department of Education, 90% of students who complete the FAFSA will enroll in postsecondary education.
CollegeCommunityCareer is partnering with Spring Branch ISD to increase the FAFSA completion rate of seniors in the district and throughout the community. Financial Aid and FAFSA workshops will be held in January, February, and March at schools, churches, and local businesses. We are seeking volunteers to be trained in the 2013-2014 FAFSA and attend at least one FAFSA workshop to help students and parents complete the FAFSA or TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid). All Volunteers will be trained by Financial Aid professionals and the FAFSA workshops will be held before the March 15th Texas FAFSA deadline.
The Volunteer FAFSA training event will be held on Thursday, January 17th from 7-8:30 pm at Spring Woods High School (2045 Gessner Drive Houston, TX 77080). During the training event, volunteers will sign up to attend Follow-up FAFSA workshops in February and March. The Follow-up FAFSA workshops will be held at various times and a location so volunteers can choose a date that works best with their schedule.
In order to assist families at the FAFSA Workshops, all volunteers are required to attend the January 17th training at Spring Woods High School. All volunteers must at least 18 years old.
To apply, please contact Becky Fowler, CollegeCommunityCareer Program Director, at bfowler@collegecommunitycaree.org with FAFSA leader in the title.
