Descripción de la oportunidad de voluntariado

Seasonal, Part Time
Supervisor/Reports to: Education Program Coordinator
Organizational Overview:
Founded in 1980, Land's Sake is a private, nonprofit corporation dedicated to responsible
stewardship of suburban farmland and forests. By combining ecologically sound land
management with experiential farm-based education, we provide a powerful model of how
public open space can be effectively used and enjoyed by the community. We operate three
interdependent branches: (1) sustainable land management and open space preservation,
(2) farm-based education, and (3) a community farm. The education department serves
our community through group/school programs, after school programs, adult education
workshops and summer programs. Land's Sake is an equal opportunity employer that
is committed to creating a multicultural organization. We actively seek a diverse pool
of candidates for all positions. To learn more about this unique nonprofit please visit:
www.landssake.org.
Programmatic Overview (relating to position):
After School
Our after school programs are designed to excite students ages 7-12 to learn more
about the outside world and feel comfortable on the farm. Each day we embark on
a project teaching children about the life on the farm and in the forests. During all
of our activities: taking care of our rabbits and chickens, planting and eating in our
garden, and taking nature walks, we urge children to use their curiosity to learn
about habitats and ecosystems.
Farm 2 School
Farm 2 School enhances classroom curriculum by engaging students on the farm
with experiential and hands-on activities in a multitude of subjects ranging from
biology to art. Land's Sake educators lead groups of students from grades K-5th on
field trips 1 hour in length. Each group visiting is divided into smaller groups of 10
students for a more meaningful and engaging experience.
Summer Open Garden
Open Garden welcomes families with young children and youth volunteers to the
Education Garden for exploration and project-based learning opportunities. This
loosely structured program allows participants to meet new people while familiarizing
with Land's Sake and all it has to offer. High school volunteers may assist in the
facilitation of this program, learning how to confidently engage with new people and
work with young children and peers outdoors.
Position Summary:
Assist Education Department in facilitating youth programs for children ages 3-17 and lead
youth volunteers in project-based learning opportunities. This position is flexible in relation
to volunteer's schedule, interests and seasonal availability.
