Education remains a very important tool to bring out various communities from poverty. The more trained and educated people are in a specific community, the less problems do people in this specific community face.
Kibera is considered as one of the biggest slums in the world and the 2nd in Africa inhabiting millions of persons who all lived in different family and social structures. Here, there is a high rate of unemployment, crime, illnesses, illiteracy and unawareness and people are various problems which slow down the way to effective development.
Our partner organization in Nairobi is working on a number of awareness and sanitization projects related to HIV-.AIDS, water purification techniques, civic education and birth control. More to this there is a local primary school which needs volunteers all through the year to assist the school staff in various subjects and programs.
Volunteers arriving in Kibera, Nairobi will be teaching and working in the school during the day and in the afternoon, will be involved in various awareness and sensitization programs. Volunteers can chose not to teach and instead work on the various social projects with local social workers both in the day and in the afternoon.
Programs are flexible and volunteers can come during anytime of the year. There will be a special "Social Summer Camp Kibera" in July and August 2013 and volunteers can choose to stay between 4-8 weeks.
Potential volunteers should be very motivated, flexible and ready to bring change in any form to a specific community. Volunteers could have the chance to meet other volunteers from other countries already working on the mentioned projects.
The arrival airport is the Jomo Kenyatta Airport,Nairobi.
