About Blessings for Brazil (B4B)
Blessings for Brazil, Inc. is a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of Brazilian children by supporting teachers, projects, and schools with micro-level grants and resources. They include providing micro-level educational grants for teachers; providing support for local community organizational sustainability projects; providing educational materials to enhance instruction; and, supporting special projects.

Our ideal board member would be/have most of the following areas:
- A sphere of influence in the Brazilian community (in the U.S. and/or Brazil).
- Enthusiastic about helping B4B's missions and activities.
- Serve as an ambassador and able to speak on behalf of B4B in a variety of settings.
- Capable of engaging in fundraising activities; accounting/finance; and/or communication/public relations.
- A team player, community-minded, and relatable to all members of the B4B team; and,
- Possess a fondness for addressing international/intercultural issues that include international education, socio-economic development, and the empowerment for disenfranchised communities.
Board Duties
Leadership Responsibility: The board will support the work of B4B and provide mission-driven leadership and strategic governance. This position, along with other members of the board of directors, is legally, fiscally, and morally responsible for all activities of the agency.
Fundraising: The board member is expected to make B4B a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. B4B request that 100% of board members make an annual contribution that commensurate with their capacity, so that B4B can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations and individuals.
Key Activities for 2013: Board members are invited to participate in activities and meetings. In 2013, one of the key roles of the board will include working with other members to restructure B4B. This restructuring will include the (a) recruitment of a Managing Executive Director, and (b) support his or her proposed action plan.
General Activities: Board members will participate in meetings that are mostly scheduled a conference call. At least one meeting a year is designed to be in-person. Board members also participate in semi-annual team meetings.
Time Period: Board members may serve for approximately 2 years, which would include a 6-8 month probationary period, and pending reflection, accomplishments, and continued interest, they will be invited to continue their service for the remaining term.
