Descripción de la oportunidad de voluntariado

Are you artistically inclined?

If so. you're invited to partner with Umbrella of the Capital District and other local artists in a unique art/fundraising event supporting independent living for senior citizens and people with disabilities throughout the Capital District of New York State.

The event is an fundraising auction called Art of the Umbrella.

Umbrella is asking artists throughout the Capital District to donate their talent by creating works of art based on interpretation of the umbrella. The donated artwork will be auctioned on the evening of Friday June 7, 2013 at Proctor's GE Theater in downtown Schenectady, New York. Festivities begin at 6pm followed by the auction at 7pm. Artwork can be painting, sculpture, jewelry, fiber art, photography or other design media appropriate for an exhibit and live auction.

This year marks the third Art of the Umbrella auction. Based on the previous two events the 2013 version will be an exciting evening not to be missed. Hope you can join us! All contributing artists will receive complementary admission to the event.

For more than 17 years Umbrella of the Capital District has been devoted to its mission of helping senior citizens live safely and independently in their own homes. In 2012 we provided assistance to nearly 1000 seniors living in more than 500 homes in communities throughout the Capital District.

Your tax deductible artwork donation will help Umbrella continue its vital work. Over the years, the ways we've helped seniors to remain independent have become more diverse. For an 86 year old musician with macular degeneration, Umbrella services provides her transportation to her performances, to play the music she loves, as well as earn the income needed to pay her bills. For a widow whose clutter problem had gotten "out of control," a weekly visit from an Umbrella handyperson is just the help she needs to get and stay organized. And, for the spouse of an individual with Alzheimer's disease, the regular companionship provided her husband, through Umbrella, frees up precious hours for her to be out of the house for appointments, running errands and taking care of herself. Umbrella never closes. Water heaters have been replaced in the middle of the night, drain lines were cleared on weekends and electrical shorts were repaired on holidays.

The demand for Umbrella services is steadily increasing, while other programs that once helped seniors are dwindling. During these difficult economic times, every dollar raised at Art of the Umbrella is meaningful and makes possible the opportunity for Umbrella to do what we do best; i.e., continue helping Capital District seniors live safely and independently in their own homes.
