More than 11,000 people will come together for Walk MS, taking place on April 27 and April 28 in seven locations. Together, we hope to raise $3 million. We need 1,000 volunteers to register participants, host water stations, distribute refreshments and much more.
Date: Saturday, April 27, 2013: Rockland County - Rockland State Park, Staten Island - Clove Lakes Park and Sullivan County - Blue Horizon Diner
Date: Sunday, April 28, 2013: New York City- South Street Seaport, Westchester County – Glen Island Park, Putnam County - Carmel Fire Department and Orange County – Crane Park
The success of Walk MS is directly related to the wonderful volunteers who help make the event a great experience. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of
skills, talents, abilities and interests. Families, corporate groups, and individuals are welcome to participate.
Volunteer Positions include:
Check-in Team
Helps check in the participants and get their event day started.
Event Information Team
Provides information about sponsors, event activities, emergencies/inquiries, communication issues, comments and feedback and lost and found. Volunteers must be personable and enthusiastic.
Food & Beverage Team
Serves breakfast prior to the start of the walk and a variety of snacks and beverages throughout the day.
T-shirt Team
Distributes t-shirts to participants who raised a minimum of $125.
Sponsor Expo
Located at the finish line, volunteers distribute information about the sponsors' programs and services in the area as well as distribute giveaways.
Volunteer, Marshal, and Support and Gear (SAG) Check-in
Checks in and checks out all volunteers, marshals and SAG personnel.
Marshal Team
Helps direct the participants to the correct walk route and encourages and cheers them along the way. This position requires standing for extended periods of time.
Photography
Photographers are needed to take engaging pictures of the participants. Photographers will also take pictures of the event, scenery and other event day aspects. Experienced photographers are preferred.
Wall of Hope
This area is for Walk MS participants to make their mark against MS and leave messages of hope and support. Volunteers encourage the participants to sign the board.
Team Meeting Area
Helps organize participants in the area where team members meet and have their pictures taken.
Team Hospitality and Top Fundraising Areas
Manages the check-in and support of all Top Fundraisers that are eligible for the Top Fundraiser Tent (Top Fundraisers wear green bibs and E200 wear yellow bibs) or Super Teams. Volunteers must be enthusiastic and courteous.
Kids' Zone
Assist with making, packing and distributing cotton candy and popcorn. Assist with the vendor's activities for the children.
Muscle Team
Activities for the day will include manual labor such as: moving barricades, tables, chairs and other heavy objects as well as hanging/removal of signs and banners. This activity requires considerable muscle strength. Groups and/or individuals are welcome.
Spirit Team
Cheers on participants as they arrive at the finish line to make them feel welcome and congratulate them on their achievement. This position requires a lot of enthusiasm. Groups are welcome for this activity.
Rest Stop
Provides participants with water encourage participants and makes them feel welcome. Groups are welcome for this activity.
