For the eighteenth consecutive year soprano Lauren Flanigan and conductor Kamal Khan will present Comfort Ye... a Holiday Concert to benefit New York's homeless on Tuesday evening, December 18th, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Peter J. Sharp Theater at Symphony Space. The first Comfort Ye... concert began in 1995 in an effort to provide immediate resources to vital Upper West Side charities.
The audience is encouraged to place their donated items on stage as part of the giving process. After the concert we move all the donated goods from the stage to a truck, then unload the food from the truck to a food bank and the coats to a local police precinct.
We need more smart, STRONG volunteers who are not afraid of working hard on a cold day, getting their hands dirty and lifting some heavy boxes. We now have hand-carts but we also need good old-fashioned elbow grease during the afternoon to set up the stage, during the evening as guests arrive and after the concert when we move the food and coats to various locations.
Plus all volunteers get to enjoy an evening of spectacular music in support of those less fortunate than ourselves.
