South Bronx United is looking for caring, energetic, and committed volunteers to coach in its Youth Soccer Recreational League for the Fall Season beginning in early September. We're looking for coaches that not only want to share the joy of playing the sport but also want to reinforce the values that sport helps develop (teamwork, discipline, respect, etc) The league holds games every Saturday in Fall and Spring at Macomb's Dam Field on 161st St between River and Jerome Avenues and right next to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
Previous soccer knowledge is not required, but enthusiasm for working with children is a necessity. Head Coaches must be able to commit to being present for at least an hour and a half every Saturday (excluding holiday weekends) during the season. Co-Coaches or Assistant Coaches are asked to be present as often as possible and to work closely with their partner coach to make sure that there is always somebody present to work with the kids. Coaches will be assigned to age groups (age 4-19) based on experience, availability, and preference. We will provide coaches with orientation materials, coach's training, and a coaching manual. A formal orientation/coach training wil be held prior to each season.
South Bronx United is a youth development organization that uses soccer as a tool for social change. Since 2009, the organization has grown into a community that includes over 100 volunteers, countless families, and more than 500 boys and girls who participate each year in education and character development programs, on six travel teams, and on 37 recreational teams. South Bronx United strives to promote educational achievement, health and wellness, and leadership through activities on and off the soccer field and to unite a diverse group of individuals and an incredibly diverse community toward common positive goals.
South Bronx United uniquely combines soccer with education, mentoring, health and wellness promotion, and character development. In addition to the recreational and travel soccer programs, the organization runs an after school tutoring program during the school year, the Summer Soccer Scholars program, and college and career prep activities. Because of the connections both on and off the field, SBU youth form a unique and essential relationship with their coaches and support staff, providing them with a support network that is often missing at school or at home. Thanks to this bond and the educational programming in which all youth in travel teams participate, South Bronx United is able to help youth achieve personal and academic success. Join the SBU team and help us Build Leaders and Scholars Through Soccer!
