The pursuit of democracy is incomplete without policies, measures and practices that seek to reduce inequalities between men and women in all spheres of life and which anchor democracy and its intersection with gender. Democracy is supposed to transform power relations between men and women by promoting the equal distribution of power and influence between women and men.
In the coming Kenyan elections, the new constitution encourages women to participate and vie for various elective positions. In the Rift valley, women still face a lot of challenges that include and not limited to political discrimination and cultural perceptions that thus discourages them from participating in the electoral process. The major cause of this is the ignorance, lack of information and lack of empowerment to instill confidence and courage into the women in the society.
The volunteer will therefore work with AHADI team in enlightening and educating women through activities such as forming of women groups and interacting with women in various levels such as taking part in their daily activities. He / she will also educate the society through interacting with women who have/had exemplary leadership that may enhance the current and prospective women leaders in the region to further their cause in leadership and also instill confidence in the other women in the region.
