Volunteer Impact: Volunteers for the Tutoring Division (Volunteer Tutors) will work one on one and/or in small groups with boys of various ages, who require intensive literacy, ELA, or Math instruction. They will support all activities involving assessments and instruction for identified members requiring additional assistance
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic support in English, Language Arts, or Math for students in K-12
- Create & support preparation of lesson plans and learning materials
- Help members answer specific questions and keep members focused while staying on task
- Support evaluation and assessment of each student's performance and growth
- Participate in development of programs geared at extended learning and practice (such as specific clubs or preparation courses) as needed
- Refer individual members in need of further assistance to the Education Director for additional support/assistance
Qualifications:
- Education, English, Math, and other highly relevant majors are encouraged to apply
- Interest in pursuing a career working with or instructing youth Commit to sharing knowledge and contributing to youth and community development
- Patience and empathy in teaching, explaining difficult subjects and/or breaking down subject matter into parts for ease
- Ability to develop rapport or connection with individual members and groups
- Experience with teaching concepts and techniques; ex. Development stages, differentiated learning, guided reading, etc.
