Montgomery County Maryland has joined the national 100,000 Homes Campaign (www.100khomes.org) which is a movement of over 200 communities working to find permanent homes for 100,000 chronically and/or medically vulnerable homeless Americans by July 2014. The campaign's work is driven by multiple studies demonstrating that homeless individuals are three to four times more likely to die prematurely than the general population, resulting in an average lifespan 25 years shorter than that of the typical American.
There are multiple opportunities to be part of the Montgomery County 100,000 Homes Campaign Registry Week. The project will take place over a six-day period from Sunday, November 3, 2013 through Friday, November 8, 2013.
During that week we anticipate 300 volunteers will be needed, most of whom will conduct the surveys of homeless individuals. However, there are also other vital roles necessary to support the efforts of the survey volunteers and to enter the data collected during the surveys. Food and drinks will be provided to volunteers at the training session and during volunteer shifts.
