NAMI GB CAN, www.namigbcan.org seeks a social activities coordinator. NAMI GB CAN is a peer-run
organization helping people recover from mental health and addicitions. We are hosting the
Opening Doors to the Arts program which helps people with mental
illness (who are frequently low income) have access to community events
they cannot normally afford. We have been around a number of years and
have had successes at several venues including Huntington Theatre, the Revels, Emerson
Cutler Majestic Theatre and the Handel and Hyden Society. We are now looking to expand. Our
website is OpeningDoorsToTheArts.org and our email is
info@OpeningDoorsToTheArts.org
The successful candidate will outreach to theatres, musical organizations
and sporting organizations to obtain free and reduced priced tickets. We have considerable
leads and contact information and are looking to develop more. The coordinator will
also maintain our list of organizations and email list of people interested in participating.
A number of our members do not have email, so they need to be called when we obtain new
opportunities. Much of the work can be done from home.
NAMI GB CAN is a partner of the The Metro Boston Recovery Learning Community www.metrobostonrlc.org
which has four mental health recovery centers staffed by people in recovery themselves, and a warmline
to support our peers over the phone. We also prepare people to return to
work and have helped over 150 people obtain paid employment in the fields
of their choice.
We also have regular bowling and movie outings, hiking activities, annual Revere Beach
trip and 4th of July picnic at Cambridge common. Many of us attend the monthly networking
dinner at www.TwoHats.org and we are interested in starting additional networking dinners.
