Community organizing, advocacy, public policy, teaching workshops, facilitating therapeutic and non-therapeutic groups, casework, social services, volunteer management, administration (such as receptionist or file clerk), and event planning.
I run group therapy, teach workshops, and tutor. I am happy to assist in writing and editing of any kind. I also have executed needs assessments and have a background in promotions, community outreach, and volunteer management for 13 years.
I have 13 years' experience in community organizing, clinical social work, and event planning. Of special interest is creating coalitions, links, and partnerships between organizations, disperate populations, subcultures, and groups. My clinical social work training specialty is in leading group therapy (as well as non-therapeutic community organizing groups). However the bulk of my training in undergrad and NYU's School of Social Work was in one on one therapy. I have counseled children ages Kindergarten to 8th Grade, teens, young adults, as well as adults of all ages including seniors. My education at NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study and NYU's School of Social Work has given me a background in clinical social work, community organizing, public policy, psychology, gender studies, critical race theory, English, literature (especially Shakespeare, Victorian, and 20th century), theatre, acting, singing, writing, and a deep understanding of intersections of oppression (as it was my concentration and colloquium topic). I have a warm professionalism, am a strategic collectivistic leader who focuses on empowerment in part by focusing on developing strengths in a given team on a case by case basis, and am culturally competent in many minority populations' unique issues for many years such as people who are multiple minorities. I have spent the bulk of my adult life (10 years) in Manhattan and Brooklyn. However, I grew up in Houston, the New York Metro Area, and England (twice). I have spent three years of my adulthood in Houston where I now live and am looking for new opportunities in a variety of settings.
Intersections of oppression, minority issues, strengthening communities, immigrant issues, strengths perspective, teaching coping skills and empowerment, and strengthening the links between groups and communities.
