SHEWD, NGO is a not -for-profit organization dedicated to uplifting villager's living standards through income generation, awareness program, Environments protection, Youth Development, Health Education & Women's Development. It is affiliated with the Social Welfare Council with an aim of supporting the uneducated & poor women to provide sustainable training for income generation projects to fulfill their basic needs.
Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world in finance but richest natural resources also in honesty and hard working, the people here are trapped in vicious circle of poverty. The per capital income of the people is around is US$220, which is very low according to UN standard. The villagers don't have huge income because only father's salary hardly covers their house expense. So they are being unable to pay for their children's education, especially for daughter, which is their children's right. The society is not thinking compulsory for daughters' education because they will move her husband house after got marriage. Therefore the literacy rate is very low; especially the women folk are deprived from education, which is the biggest obstacle for their income source. We believe now that if the son is educated only for his but if the daughter will educate whole family will be educated. However women want to participate to raise income for their family but they are being handicap however they are fit in physically.
So SHEWD founded Women's Friendly Small Business Program (WFSBP), Hipknit as a sustainable program to uplifting their living standard as an income generation. We will make them train in Knitting, Weaving, Sewing and more of handicrafts & garments items then they could participate income generation. The women's income will be significant to the family to pay for food, healthcare, housing and children's education. The products of women must be placed in the market but local market will not pay as the time took to make the items, which is not under a fair return. Also order quantity is very less so that women will not get continues work. We got the order from Holland but it was single person order that will pay well but it was difficult to send from Nepal to Holland for single piece through cargo. HIPKNIT program which is looking to attract the buyers from the around the world in htmlcrafts, garments, Farming focused Income Generation Projects who share their commitment to the ideas of Fair Trade .so we are looking for international partnership or buyer who will pay higher wages then realistic average local expectations.
So we have invited for volunteer from idealist.org and in our web site www.hipknit.com to find partnership or buyer in their country, who will prospered and continues to be a significant money maker for both partner and women of SHEWD.
