The Friends of PS 169 is an organization of volunteers who, since the 1950's, have provided tutors for PS 169. PS 169 is part of New York City's Special Education District 75. District 75 provides educational and behavior support programs for students who are on the autism spectrum, have significant cognitive delays, are severely emotionally challenged, sensory impaired and/or multiply disabled.*
Our volunteers tutor students on a one-to-one basis, teaching both academic and social skills, with emphasis on trying to close the achievement gap. The challenge for the Friends is that many more children at PS 169 need this kind of help than we have tutors to serve them.
