Cambridge in America (CAm) is the alumni, development, and
communications center for the American constituents of the University of Cambridge
and its thirty-one member Colleges. A historic institution of higher education, Cambridge
consistently ranks among the top five research universities worldwide. In its
distinctive setting on the River Cam in southeast England, the University
educates more than 18,000 students annually and its graduates have been ranked
the most employable in the world by the International New
York Times. The University boasts a world-class and
long-standing reputation for excellence. Since early in the 20th century, 90 Cambridge
faculty members have won the Nobel Prize, and they have won in every category.
In 2009, the
University of Cambridge reached a historic milestone --its 800th Anniversary.
An 800th Anniversary Campaign was launched in 2005, with a goal of £1.2
billion, the largest ever for a UK-based institution. By successfully engaging
alumni and an international network of supporters, the goal was reached in
2012. New funding was earmarked for investment in faculty and students, as well
as the endowment that underpins Cambridge’s academic initiatives and status as
a world renowned institution.
Sustaining a university of this caliber
demands continual investment in new facilities, new areas of study, and most
importantly, in people; so continued fundraising efforts and innovative
partnerships are vital, including especially those in North America. In recent years, CAm has raised close to $20
million annually to fund the full spectrum of educational and research
initiatives. Now, in light of the far reaching capital, endowment and
programmatic goals of the University of Cambridge, CAm is gearing up to raise
even more. A new international campaign—only the second in Cambridge University’s
centuries-long history—will soon be launched with an ambitious fundraising goal
to ensure that Cambridge remains at the forefront of institutions of higher
education across the globe.
