Throughout SW Virginia, the economic strife on local families is of great concern. The percentage of the population living below poverty is 10.9%. Fortunately, there are many health and human service nonprofits in the area that are striving to meet increased needs and serve a greater population size. But unfortunately, the agencies that bring such physiological essentials as food, childcare and educational services, shelter, and medical assistance, are struggling in the areas of capacity building and sustainability. Community needs cannot be met, unless the service providers are able to sustain themselves, address the symptoms of poverty (i.e. hunger), and encourage community-wide development.
The efforts of The Advancement Foundation (TAF) ensure that these health and human services agencies, and the economic benefit they hold for the region, continue to thrive. The Foundation offers agencies guidance, training, and occasionally staff support in order to execute strategic planning, fund development, program efficiency, and collaborative projects-all of which set the foundation for long-term viability and community aide. Our program focus areas will include the following: Strategic Planning and Work Steps - TAF will complete an organizational assessment and design a strategic plan for each of the organizations it serves. Major Gifts and Funding Campaigns - TAF will implement new funding programs that incorporate prospect management AND identify new funding sources through sponsorships, private donations, earned income and/or corporation/foundation support. Technology and Training - Organizations will begin to effectively use technology and training to improve operations. Communications plan - TAF will direct and train organizations to maintain communications with donors, partners, and the community at large. Volunteer recruitment - TAF will implement processes for expanding each organization's workforce by 20%.
