The Galo Plaza Lasso Foundation was established in 1995 as a continuation of the long-lasting legacy of Ecuadorian ex-president Galo Plaza. It is a non-governmental, non-profit agency whose prime mission is to sponsor, develop and carry out endeavours that benefit the quality of life of the inhabitants of Zuleta and the region through education, conservation and socioeconomic development programs.
Currently the Foundation works with the community in various environmental and development projects: Zuleta Embroidery, Andean Condor Conservation, Our Ancestors, Tourism and Community. We collaborate with public and private organisations, and we are part of the National Group for the Andean Condor in Ecuador.
Sustainable development projects by the Galo Plaza Lasso Foundation are carefully designed for the needs and context of the local community and environment. True sustainability requires that development be sustainable environmentally, socially and economically. For this reason, almost all of our development projects include components fitting into these 3 categories.
