The Amaanah After School Program provides academic and social development for refugee students through tutoring, homework assistance and project based learning.
Amaanah will provide the best educational program for refugee students fostering a safe and dynamic environment where students can excel academically and socially.
Refugee children experience the upheaval of war, food insecurity, persecution, and loss. After years spent in refugee camps, families are resettled in countries where the society, language and culture are completely different. Youth, in particular, are prone to low self-esteem and behavioral problems that stem from not knowing the English language. While in refugee camps, children may not encounter formal schooling or interrupt their studies as a result of their plight. Thus, once in the US, refugee children find themselves academically behind their American peers and are more susceptible to discrimination and exclusion.
