Descripción

The Urban Justice Center (UJC) serves New York City's most vulnerable residents - survivors of domestic violence; homeless individuals, families, and recipients of mental health services; individuals struggling with addiction; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth - through a unique combination of direct legal services, systemic advocacy, community education, and political organizing.

Our 9 Projects are: Homelessness Outreach & Prevention (HOPP), which serves homeless adults and families through public benefits advocacy and eviction prevention work; Mental Health (MHP), which serves indigent consumers of mental health services; Family Violence (FVP), which assists women and children who are victims of domestic violence through primary prevention, early intervention, and system reform; Peter Cicchino Youth (PCYP; formerly Lesbian & Gay Youth), which serves lgbt youth, especially those who are living on the streets; Harm Reduction Law (HRLP), which works with individuals struggling with addiction; Human Rights (HRP), which promotes human rights for poor New Yorkers by identifying and publicizing human rights violations resulting from inadequate social welfare policies; Community Development (CDP), which supports the efforts of grassroots groups working to improve conditions in low-income communities in NYC; Street Vendors (SVP), which works on behalf of street vendors through legal education, political organizing, and systemic advocacy; and Sex Workers (SWP), which advocates on an individual and systemic level for sex workers, former sex workers, and those that are profiled or at risk for engaging in sex work.
