The University of Auckland was founded in 1883 and is New Zealand's leading research university. It is also the country's largest university with 38,000 students, 4,800 of whom are international students from 80 countries around the world.

Domestic Fees for PhD Students
From 1 January 2006, new international PhD students will be accorded domestic status for the purpose of tuition fees.
Dependent children will also be classified as domestic students in New Zealand primary and secondary schools.
Your spouse or partner will be able to apply for an open work permit valid for the duration your course of study, while you can work up to 20 hours a week part-time.
After completing a PhD, many students are able to find jobs and even migrate to New Zealand with their families. Completion of a PhD may attract extra points under the General Skills category making it possible to apply directly for permanent residence.
