The Boys Initiative is a national campaign to shed light on documented trends in recent years pertaining to boys' underachievement and young men's failure to launch. The mission of the Initiative is to shed light on these trends, foster dialogue and debate about them, and collaborate on solutions with those who are committed to the futures of our nation's youth. Most specifically, the Initiative focuses on programs related to the advancement of boys' and young men's health, educational attainment and preparation for adulthood as well as those related to the prevention of criminal behavior, incarceration, abuse and other risk factors.
We accomplish our mission by partnering and building coalitions with organizations that represent the interests of youth, boys and young men, parents and teachers and adolescent health care providers, among others, and serving as a "hub" for information, resources and services pertaining to achievement among boys and young men. The Initiative educates youth, parents, policymakers, the public and related organizations through its programs and resources. The organization also fosters research, advocacy and projects to improve achievement among boys and young men. We are guided by a 21 member board of advisors.
The Initiative principally serves boys and young men at the K-12 and postsecondary levels as well as parents, teachers, health care providers and others who work to address their needs. Secondarily, the Initiative serves non-profit organizations, corporations, governments, policymakers and others that have an interest in promoting achievement among boys and young men.
