The Garrison Institute is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization whose mission is to apply the transformative power of contemplation to today's pressing social and environmental concerns, helping to build a more compassionate, resilient future. Founded in 2003, the Institute is housed in a former monastery located on 90 acres of preserved land overlooking the Hudson River. We host more than 80 retreats and trainings each year led by distinguished teachers and thought leaders exploring a wide range of wisdom traditions and the application of contemplative ideas and approaches for personal and social change.
Through its program initiatives, the Institute works to apply the power of contemplation in practical, systematic ways to the key fields of education, contemplative care and ecology. The Institute researches and develops contemplative-based tools to help teachers, caregivers, environmentalists and other professionals sustain and deepen their challenging work. The organization also uses contemplative-based tools and methods to help shift workplace cultures, nurture new professional fields, activate leadership and learning networks and work for positive change at the systems level.
