Located at John Muir Elementary School and Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School, the Western Addition
Beacon Center provides quality after-school programming for youth and also serves as a community center
addressing the specific needs of the Western Addition community. Our mission is to enrich the lives of community
members and to ensure the healthy development of young people. We offer a wide array of after-school
programming including computer technology, cultural arts, and recreation. We also recognize the importance of
family and adult services and work to serve the entire community. The Beacon strives to inspire youth and uplift the
community.
More specifically, the 21st Century granted program includes three primary components: Academics,
Enrichment and Recreation operating after school-site dismissal five days a week. The goals are to improve
literacy skill levels and academic performances, and to strengthen social skills in youth. Under the
supervision of the Program Coordinator at Wallenberg High School, this position is responsible for leading a
variety of academic math tutorial activities in the after-school program.
