Primary Care Progress

Organización sin fines de lucro

The challenge

Our current health care system is failing us. Care is too often disorganized, uncoordinated, and error-prone; payment systems reward volume, not value; and our patient-provider interactions are often confined to 15-minute encounters that leave neither patient nor provider satisfied. There is wide agreement that patient-centered primary care is essential to fixing our broken health care system, but setbacks have discouraged medical trainees from choosing careers in primary care. The growing shortage of primary care clinicians will only make it more difficult for patients to get the care they want and need.

Who we are

Primary Care Progress (PCP) is a growing network of primary health care clinicians, trainees, and students engaging their local primary health care communities to promote primary care and transform care delivery and training. PCP is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization.

Our approach

The central premise of PCP is that addressing the challenges facing primary health care requires a grassroots, bottom-up approach and that the next generation of primary health care clinicians has a critical role to play in this transformation. We have the most to gain if all members of the primary care community, including clinicians and trainees in Family Medicine, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine join forces to focus on common interests and shared goals.

PCP members are initiating efforts in local communities to promote the importance of primary care and raise awareness about new models of care, engage trainees in efforts to redesign care delivery, and support primary care education reform initiatives. The PCP network is designed to connect trainees, clinicians, and educators with one another through local activities, while creating a national community of like-minded primary care advocates who energize and inspire one another.
