The International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) is a private, multinational organisation committed to strengthening the capacity of the international community to anticipate, understand and act to prevent and contain conflict.

Crisis Group's approach is grounded in field research. Teams of political analysts, based on the ground in countries at risk of conflict, gather information from a wide range of sources, assess local conditions and produce regular analytical reports containing practical recommendations targeted at key international decision-takers.

Crisis Group's reports are distributed widely to officials in foreign ministries and international organisations and made generally available at the same time via the organisation's Internet site, www.crisisgroup.org. Crisis Group works closely with governments and those who influence them, including the media, to highlight its crisis analysis and to generate support for its policy prescriptions. The Board of International Crisis Group, which includes prominent figures from the fields of politics, diplomacy, business and the media - is directly involved in helping to bring reports and recommendations to the attention of senior policy-makers around the world. Crisis Group is co-chaired by Chris Patten, a former European Commissioner for External Relations, Governor of Hong Kong, and UK Cabinet Minister, and Tom Pickering, former US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, Ambassador to the UN, India, Russia, Israel, El Salvador, Nigeria and Jordan, and Senior Vice President for International Affairs at Boeing; former Australian Foreign Minister Gareth Evans has been President and Chief Executive since January 2000.

Crisis Group's international headquarters are at Brussels, with advocacy offices in Washington DC, New York, London and Moscow. The organisation currently operates field projects in covering more than 60 situations of actual or potential conflict worldwide.

ICG raises funds from governments, charitable foundations, companies and individual donors. The following governments currently provide funding: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. Foundation and private sector donors include the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ford Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Hunt Alternatives, the Korea Foundation, the John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Pierre and Pamela Omidyar Fund, the Open Society Institute, the Ploughshares Fund, the Sigrid Rausing Trust, and VIVA Trust.
