For over 28 years, P.F. Bresee Foundation has been addressing the social needs of the community by offering services to low-income youth and families in the central Los Angeles area. Bresee endeavors to improve the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhoods by assisting youth and families in gaining higher levels of literacy, academic achievement, technological proficiency, career skills, health and well being, and overall family self-sufficiency.
Bresee's mission is to "offer hope and wholeness and to work toward reconciliation, empowerment and justice in our community through basic skills development, community and youth development, health services and urban leadership training". Our key activities include a myriad of programs for youth (ages 11-18) and families provided by our three program teams: Education and Career Development (ECD), Leadership and Social Development (L&SD), and Family Support Services. Our current afterschool education and youth development programs provide youth with homework assistance, one-on-one tutoring in literacy and math, group mentoring, technology and advanced multimedia training, college preparation and scholarships, workplace readiness training and paid internships, character and skill enrichment workshops, sports leagues and organized recreational activities, local field trips and summer camps. Additionally, we offer case management services and provide family support through parenting classes, health education workshops, academic assistance, financial education and emergency assistance, and juvenile justice assistance.
