The Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights & Urban Affairs is a non-profit, private organization established in 1968 to provide pro bono legal representation to individuals and groups confronting issues of discrimination and poverty in the D.C. metropolitan area. It operates a series of special projects in the areas of: equal employment opportunity, fair housing, public accommodations, disability rights, prisoners' rights, public education reform, and asylum and refugee rights. Much of the Committee's work is done in conjunction with attorneys from the major private law firms in Washington. Financial support is provided by a combination of law firm and individual gifts, foundation grants and attorneys fees.
