The Hetrick-Martin Institute, home of the Harvey Milk High School, believes that all young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential.
HMI is the oldest and largest not-for-profit, multi-service agency dedicated to serving gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, providing a broad range of vital programming including individual, group and family counseling; case management and support services for homeless and at-risk teenagers; recreation in the Afterschool Drop-In Center; training on issues of sexuality and HIV/AIDS for youth and professionals; and youth leadership development programs.
HMI serves thousands of youth each year, ranging in age from 12 to 24, from the five boroughs of New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area. HMI has also recently implemented programming in Newark, NJ.
