The Freire Charter School is an independent public school enrolling 440 students in grades nine to twelve. Since the opening of its doors in 1999, Freire has aimed to be the premier open-admissions public high school in Philadelphia. Located in Rittenhouse Square section of Center City Philadelphia, Freire attracts students from all parts of the city.

The mission of Freire is to provide a college preparatory education with a focus on individual freedom, critical thinking, and problem solving in an environment that emphasizes the values of community, teamwork, and nonviolence.
