Martha’s Table believes everyone deserves dignity and opportunity and works with children, families, and neighbors working to break the cycle of poverty. For 35 years, Martha’s Table has worked to build a better future for children, their families and many neighbors in the District of Columbia by increasing access to Healthy Starts, Healthy Eating, and Healthy Connections.
We believe children, regardless of income, deserve a Healthy Start to spur school readiness and prepare them for a successful, healthy life. At our nationally accredited Healthy Start Center, teachers use a ‘Learn through Play” approach to encourage infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to explore; our curriculum for out of school time students is literacy-focused and encourages elementary age students to build the confidence and skills to achieve success throughout life.
Martha’s Table offers a range of healthy eating programs that reduce hunger and food insecurity and makes certain that our children, their families, and many others have both the healthy, nutritious food and nutrition knowledge to ensure their health.
As our children progress through middle school, high school and college, we support our youth with service, leadership, and work opportunities as they mature into their future as learners, leaders, and earners. At the same time, we work with the parents of Healthy Start students to become family visionaries and leaders on their family’s path toward a self-defined vision of success.
